[융합과학부]Broadband Optical Cloaks and Their Practical Applications

Abstract

Optical cloaks mean artificially engineered structures that minimize interaction with incoming light, thereby concealing them at a specific range of wavelengths. A variety of optical cloaks have been realized on different concepts of geometric optics, metasurfaces, transformation optics, and so on. In this talk, I will discuss how to conceal submicron to micron metal wires over a full range of visible wavelengths. Such “invisible” metal wires are utilized to develop high figure-of-merit transparent electrodes because existing metal-wire-based transparent electrodes suffer from poor view clarity. Optical cloaks can be designed to operate at mid-infrared wavelengths; they must be visibly transparent, but thermally black at the same time. The mid-infrared optical cloaks also serve as radiative coolers that dissipate thermal energy of heated objects via a radiation transfer. As the second topic in this presentation, I will discuss the strategy of radiative coolers and their cooling performance on Si substrates in daylight.
